God our Mother (Is 49,15)?

Abstract In the Bible, most of metaphors and similes used to describe the attributes of the God of Israel are masculine (king, warrior, shepherd, viticulturist). However, the image of God as father is dominant. During the Babylonian crisis, however, a new way of describing the character of God appears – a metaphor associated with the image of mother, being a response to the belief that God “forgot” (Is 49,14–15) the covenant and his children.       Keywords God, mother, children, metaphor, forget       Bibliography 1.
